plaNYC

A Good Idea

Description

After speaking with many city residents and organizations, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg developed a plan to enhance New York City's environment. Five elements are included in the plan - land, air, water, energy and transportation. To support these elements, plaNYC includes ten goals to be accomplished by 2030.

Goal / Mission

The goal of plaNCY is to ensure a higher quality of life for New Yorkers, and reduce the city's greenhouse gas emissions by 30%.

Results / Accomplishments

In 2010, 3 years following the adoption of plaNYC, the city had added over 200 miles of bicycle lanes, planted over 322,000 trees, and acquired nearly 29,000 acres of land to protect the city's water supply. Per capita energy use is declining, and citywide carbon emissions have been reduced by 9%.
