The Health Council of South Florida, Inc. is a part of a statewide network of 11 non-profit agencies established by Section 408.033 Florida Statutes (F.S.) to conduct regional health planning and implementation activities. The Council service Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties as designated in Section 408.032, F.S. The role of the council is to develop district health plans containing data, analysis and recommendations that relate to health care status and needs in the community. The recommendations are designed to improve access to health care, reduce disparities in health status, assist state and local governments in the development of sound and rational health care policies, and advocate on behalf of the underserved. The Council's is governed by a twelve-person Board of Directors.
The mission of the Council is to be the source of unbiased health data; quality program planning, management & evaluation; strong community partnerships in Miami-Dade & Monroe Counties; and targeted health care policy at the local, state, & national levels.
Miami Matters is a dynamic, interactive web-based information system that provides easy to understand health, environmental and other quality of life indicators for Miami-Dade County. The site connects visitors to promising practices and resources that encourage and promote informed community action. Miami Matters seeks to provide a road map for collaborative community improvement by highlighting where we have been, where we are, and directing where we need to go.
Miami Matters serves as an educational library and best practices repository and can be used as:
• a Community Assessment Tool
• a Strategic Planning Instrument
• a collaborative Platform
• an Advocacy Platform
