| Description |
The California Smoker’s Hotline is a collaborative effort between First 5 California and the California Department of Public Health. The toll-free Hotline offers callers one-on-one telephone counseling, referrals to local resources, and self-help materials. The telephone counselors provide support and use evidence-based tobacco cessation counseling protocols. Counseling is available in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and Vietnamese.
First 5 is funded through Proposition 10, which adds a 50-cent tax to each pack of cigarettes sold. |

The Hotline’s goal is to help individuals and families quite smoking. |
| Results / Accomplishments |
In the 2008-2009 Fiscal Year, 36,825 individuals called the hotline. Of these, 20% were either pregnant or had a child zero to five years of age, 52% self identified as an ethnic minority, 60% had Medi-Cal health coverage, and 20% were uninsured. |
