Welcome to the Hialeah Healthy Families Community Page!

The purpose of this forum is to allow for tracking and community reporting of progress toward the goals of the "Hialeah Healthy Families Community Plan to Combat Childhood Obesity."

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation launched the Embrace a Healthy Florida Initiative to address the causes of childhood obesity. The City of Hialeah is leading this effort and coordinating the work of 17 mini-grantees from area organizations.

Four target areas were identified to focus the Hialeah Healthy Families initiative:

  • Environment
  • School Involvement
  • Parent Engagement
  • Social Marketing and Community Outreach

Monitoring Progress

Tracking key community outcome measures as well as intervention data allows stakeholder to assess and highlight progress towards the goals of Healthy Hialeah families.

This video explains the many factors that have contributed to the obesity epidemic, and showcases several community initiatives taking place to prevent and reduce obesity. Obesity is a national epidemic and a major contributor to some of the leading causes of death in the U.S., including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some types of cancer. We need to change our communities into places that strongly support healthy eating and active living.
